INTRODUCTION

Beijing International Exhibition Center Co., Ltd. was founded by Beijing North Star Company Limited as a level-II municipal state-owned enterprise in November 2019, through the corporatization of Beijing International Exhibition Center which was previously affiliated with China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-council (CCPIT Beijing).

Established in 1985 as an exhibition arm of CCPIT Beijing, Beijing International Exhibition Center (BIEC) was approved as a public institution by the Office of Organizational Setup Committee of Beijing Committee of the Communist Party of China in 2008. Being a member of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), Vice-president of China Association for Exhibition Centers, and Vice-president of Beijing International Convention & Exhibition Industry Association, BIEC has organized various international exchange activities, exhibitions and conferences, as entrusted by the People's Government of Beijing Municipality and CCPIT Beijing, and received widespread recognition for its outstanding performance. The major events included the “Week of Beijing” as part of the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan; the Expo 2010 Shanghai China (Beijing Mansion); exhibition of Beijing-based enterprises during the 2014 APEC; 2014-2018 sessions of China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (Beijing Mansion) and 2015-2019 sessions of China International Big Data Industry Expo.

BIEC has actively leveraged the role of the market in allocating resources, and engaged in the international exhibition business as part of the international service trade. Since its establishment, it has joined hands with national ministries and commissions as well as domestic and foreign industrial organizations, presenting upward of 300 international exhibitions under its roof, such as China Refrigeration and China Transpo. The exhibitors’ list included over 75,000 companies and manufacturers from more than 40 countries and regions, as well as large and medium-sized industrial leaders and well-known global brands in related sectors. In addition to organizing and hosting international exhibitions in China, BIEC has also led Chinese delegations composed mainly of Beijing-based industrial and commercial enterprises to more than 30 countries and regions in five continents to set up exhibitions or participate in international expositions. BIEC has helped promote mutual understanding between Beijing and the rest of the world, and contributed positively to China’s foreign trade. By the end of 2021, BIEC had a total of 26 employees, with a revenue of RMB 90 million.

Looking into the future, Beijing International Exhibition Center Co., Ltd. will continue to explore its advantages, most especially in terms of the market system and resources, and pursue further progress in building a professional and international brand of exhibitions in/for Beijing.
